Man held in drug bust claims ganja, denies cocaine

A man, who was held by anti-narcotics agents in a drug bust on Thursday, was arraigned on two drug possession charges yesterday.

Michael Isles, 28, pleaded guilty to possession of one gramme of marijuana, which he said he had for personal use. Isles, however, denied that the cocaine allegedly found on his person was his, when he appeared before Magistrate Leron Daley at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Denise Booker said that at about 7:31pm, ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), upon information that they received, went to Hadfield and Cross streets and conducted a search on him. Booker said they found a transparent bag, which contained another bag filled with leaves and stems suspected to be marijuana and another bag with a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine. Isles was then taken into custody.

With his guilty plea, Isles was fined $3,000 with an alternative of six months imprisonment for the possession of marijuana, while was remanded to prison on the cocaine possession charge.
He will make his next court appearance on November 14 for reports and fixtures.
