Camera thief says he was hungry, couldn’t find work

A man yesterday admitted to stealing a digital camera from another man because he was hungry and couldn’t find work.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded Jevon Ramoo, 22, to prison while a probation report is done to inform sentencing.

Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick stated that on November 5, in Georgetown, Ramoo, of Lot 87 Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, stole a cannon digital camera, valued $140,000, from Bruce Monk.

The robbery occurred at about 11:25an while Monk was walking at Quamina Street. Ramoo walked up to him and started to pull the camera away, managing to escape with it, Bostwick said, adding that he was later caught by public-spirited citizens.

When given the opportunity to explain his actions, Ramoo said, “I was hungry and looking for a job, but couldn’t find one to get money.”

The magistrate then ordered a probation report for sentencing and adjourned the case until November 14.
