Susannah’s Rust, Dora get solar systems

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development presented four solar panels, health supplements and learning aids to a number of Demerara River communities during a recent outreach exercise.

According to a press release, Minister Ganga Persaud and a team including Deputy Permanent Secretary Abena Moore distributed four solar systems to the Dora and Low Wood health centres and the Dora and Susannah’s Rust primary schools. They also interacted with residents at La Harmony, Sand Hills and Endeavour.

Residents asked the team for assistance to procure brush cutters, solar panels for schools and for agriculture to be promoted in the area.

In response, Persaud said government was concerned that some persons aren’t inclined to pursue farming yet they are unemployed. He said the Ministry of Agriculture had sent several packets of seeds for distribution and several other agencies, including Food for the Poor, had sent books, games and other learning aids for distribution. The Health Ministry had also sent supplements for children and pregnant women for distribution.

The minister acknowledged that while there are challenges, youth must be encouraged to remain positive and contribute to nation building.
