Cops no closer to finding owner of Garden of Eden ammo

Police seem no closer to finding the owner of the ammunition, gun and police-like clothing that were found in Garden of Eden last week but have since started patrolling the area at night.

Contacted, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News on Monday that there had been no further development in the case. He said police are continuing their investigations into the find.
Around 08:30 hrs on November 5, acting on information received, police found a .38 Taurus Special Revolver along with 1,407 rounds of ammunition of various calibre, two bullet-proof vests, two pairs of black leather boots, three face masks, and a quantity of clothing in two black suitcases and a travelling bag on the dam.

The police said the ammunition included .38, 7.62×39, .45, .44, .40, 9 mm, .25, and .380 rounds; and 12-gauge cartridges.

Residents had expressed concern that the items were to be used in a robbery and the perpetrators were planning to pose as policeman. When asked about the boots, Persaud had explained that such footwear can be bought from anywhere. He said that the boots are “sold on open market” and that the force would have the footwear mass manufactured and would then have them marked. The ones found, he said, did not have the police mark.

With regard to the clothing which resembles those usually worn by members of the Tactical Services Unit, he had said checks were being made to ascertain if they belong to the force.

Contacted yesterday a resident said the police have not revisited the area to conduct further investigations. However, he said he has noticed that there are now regular patrols in the area, in the light of the find. He expressed some satisfaction that patrols are now being done.

Residents had said that strange vehicles could often be seen driving in and out of the community and had expressed a desire for police patrols.
