Two injured in Sheriff St collision

Two persons were injured after an early morning accident yesterday at Dennis and Sheriff streets involving a sand truck and a car.

The driver of the truck and a woman, who was a passenger in the car, are now patients at the Georgetown Hospital as a result of the accident.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that the accident occurred around 5:30am as the truck was proceeding along Sheriff Street, when the driver of the car, who was coming out of Dennis Street, drove into its path. The driver of the truck then swerved to avoid a collision but the truck ended up hitting the car and turned turtle in the nearby trench.

Persons who rushed to the scene had to cut open the front of the truck, where the driver was, in order to get him out, since he was trapped inside.  He and the woman were then rushed to the hospital.

The police are currently investigating the accident.
