Taxi driver charged over Mahdia knifing

A taxi driver was yesterday released on bail after he denied wounding another man in an attack at Mahdia.

James Keith Bernard, 38, of Lot 80 South Ruimveldt pleaded not guilty when the charge of unlawful and malicious wounding was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Court 1 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Police Prosecutor Kerry Botswick said that on December 8, Kennard Norah was walking in the vicinity of the Mahdia market, when Bernard, who was armed with a knife, attacked him, causing him injuries.

Bostwick had no objection to bail, which was eventually set at $125,000. Bernard, however, is required to report to the police station every Friday at 8 am during the course of the case. The matter will continue on January 13, 2013 at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
