Two fishermen shot dead in Trinidad

(Trinidad Express) Two fishermen were shot and killed in the Sea Lots area yesterday morning.

The deaths of 31-year-old Yohance “Simba” Miguel and Nigel John, 32, have taken the country’s murder toll for the year to 366, according to an Express tally.

Investigators said at around 8.30 a.m., Miguel and John, both of Production Avenue, were at a house in the area, when residents reported hearing several loud explosions.

Officers said upon investigating, the residents found John lying along the roadway, while Miguel’s body was found inside the house.

John, they said, ran from the building after being shot several times.

Investigators from the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID), led by ASP Ajith Persad, the Besson Street Police Station and detectives from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) visited the scene and carried out enquiries.

Police said they have since classified the killings as drug-related.

Miguel was scheduled to go on trial for manslaughter for killing a man in Sea Lots some years ago.

Homicide detectives are continuing enquiries.
