The tools a gardener needs

Today we begin a new series on gardening with hints for those who would like to develop a garden, or even
just enjoy some potted plants around the house or on a patio. Peggy Chin along with her sister is the proprietor
of a plant shop in the city.

I shall begin with a few of the basic gardening tools and accessories which are a must for anyone who would like to be a gardener.

1.  A good pair of gardening gloves

2.  A durable pair of pruner or secateurs

3.  Seed trays

4.  Plant pots in various sizes

5.  A durable hand gardening fork, shovel, rake and an irrigator (although a cutlass) can be used to turn up the soil

6.  Promix

7.  Potting soil

8.  A watering can with a rose or spout

9.  A gardening hose with a nozzle

10. A spray bottle to mist young seedlings and plants

11. A good plant food like Miracle Gro All Purpose, which covers a wide range from seedlings to mature plants.

12.  A good slow release plant food such as Osmocote – Indoor/ Outdoor.

Are you ready to start your new flower, herb or vegetable garden? For those for you who do not have the open space, that’s no problem; a few plant pots or boxes would do nicely.

Remember always to clean your gardening tools after use – wash and dry them. To prevent them from rusting, a little oil or grease will work wonders.

Until next week, happy gardening!
