EAB expects to release poll report soon

The Electoral Assistance Bureau (EAB) yesterday said that by this weekend it will release its official report on last November’s general elections.

Project Director of the EAB Abbass Mancey yesterday said, “We have been working tediously over the document and it will be released very soon. In the coming days ahead… by weekend the most.”

Justifying the long delay, as compared to other elections watchdog bodies Mancey said, “We know that it has been a while but the document had to be looked at thoroughly by the board and also we had to hear from EAB members countrywide.”

The EAB which has been playing a major role in Guyana’s elections since 1992 had fielded at least 2,000 observers countrywide for the 2011 polls. The non-governmental organisation was also the umbrella body for which the Private Sector Commission helped to observe polling stations.

It had planned to field-test the voters’ list but eventually abandoned doing so because of financial constraints.
