Cops cleared of stolen diesel charges

Two police officers charged with stealing fuel from a Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) oil tanker that was left parked in the compound of the Mackenzie Police Station, walked out the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court free men after the charges against them were dismissed on Tuesday.

Magistrate Ann McLennan upheld a no-case submission in the case brought against Police Sergeant 17228 Terrence Noble and Police Constable 20531 Cecil Adams.

It was alleged that Noble, of 176 Fort Ordnance, West Coast Berbice, and Adams, of Ogle Street, East Coast Demerara, sometime between November and December 2009, at the Mackenzie Police Station, conspired to steal 25,000 gallons of diesel from the GEA.

The fuel had been lodged in the station compound at the time.

At their initial appearance before Magistrate McLennan on August 17, 2010, the two accused were each placed on $100,000 bail.
