Bus conductor stabbed by ‘tout’ over $800

A minibus conductor was stabbed to his abdomen during an altercation with a tout in the vicinity of Stabroek Market on Thursday.

Geewan Lall, 45, of Crane, West Coast Demerara, has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital and yesterday told this newspaper that he is feeling worse than he had the previous day.

According to Lall, he is uncertain of how many stab wounds he suffered at the hands of his assailant, who he said he is familiar with. Lall is unable to breathe properly and incapable of moving much.

He explained that he usually works on Route 40 (Kitty/Campbellville) buses but is not employed with a single person. As a result, he goes and seeks daily work in the evenings.

On Thursday, Lall said, he was at the bus park around 4pm and had in his possession $800. The “tout,” as Lall described him, approached him and “bullied him” for the money.

“I had $800 and he want to bully me my money, my personal money,” the man reiterated. When asked if he owed his attacker money, Lall responded in the negative.

Armed with a knife, his attacker launched at him and dealt several stabs to his stomach. He said he was rushed to the city hospital by two men on the park.

“Doctors ain’t tell me nun as yet ’cause I couldn’t get to talk properly. All they say is tomorrow I might get discharge but I know I can’t help myself,” he said in a quiet tone.

When asked about the whereabouts of his attacker, Lall said he was uncertain if he was arrested by the police.

“I ain’t had no family come to see me, I don’t think they know. Maybe after this go on the news they will find out,” Lall said.
