Ramotar assures: Bartica not far from township

President Donald Ramotar gave the assurance that the government will continue being a major patron of the popular Bartica Regatta as he presented a $500,000 cheque on Sunday to Chairman of Region Seven, Gordon Bradford.

President Ramotar was at the Bartica beach front where scores of patrons converge at this time for the Bartica Regatta, a signature event on the tourism calendar, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.

Ramotar said he was pleased to be part of an event that is the pride and joy of Bartica and even more pleased at the evident growth in the community and the promise it has of becoming a town.

“As far back as 2007 we decided that we will work towards making Bartica a town in Region Seven and I would say that just by driving around the area today that we are not far when Bartica becomes another town in Guyana and another very important town as it is the gateway to our interior,” Ramotar said

He was accompanied by acting Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Irfaan Ali and Minister of Public Works Robeson Benn who dropped in on their way from the Rupununi Rodeo.

The regatta is organized by the Bartica Regatta Committee and  the event attracts many from across Guyana as well as tourists from the Caribbean and North America.

Since its inception in 1974 the event has grown in scale and scope.
