Man jailed over cocaine ‘found’ during fire service operation

A man was yesterday jailed for three years and fined $15,000 for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The sentence was handed down to Barrow Peters, 43, by Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that on February 21, during an operation at the fire station at Stabroek Market, Peters had four grammes of cocaine in his possession.

He was found with a white plastic container, containing a creamy rock like substance later found to be cocaine.

Peters, who resides at Lot 59 Zeeburg, stated that he found the container behind the garbage area in the vicinity of the fire station and that he did not have it for the purpose of trafficking but for consumption.

He stated that he is a “smoker” and the use of the substance relieves some bodily pain.
