Barthley says Shillingford should resign

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Zorol Barthley has urged Gregory Shillingford to resign from the post of president of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association.

Barthley, a former national and Leewards administrator, said Shillingford has failed the game in the sub-region and the time has come him to go.

“I want to suggest that we, as Leeward Islands people, are not being properly represented at the West Indies Cricket Board by our President Gregory Shillingford and I want to make a call for [his] immediate resignation. . .because he is not serving the best interest of Leeward Islands,” said Barthley on a local morning TV talk show.

Barthley, a former chief operations officer of the WICB, was also upset that it appeared the third Test in the pending series between West Indies and Australia set for Guyana has now been moved to Dominica – and Antigua & Barbuda were not the beneficiary.

The WICB has not made an official announcement about the Test in Guyana as its standoff with the Government there seems to have no immediate end in sight.

“This decision to move the game was made by an executive committee, not a full board of the WICB and the President sits on the committee,” said Barthley. “Our economics are being challenged and we are being kicked backwards by people we have facilitated,” said Barthley. “The WICB’s (corporate office) is here in Antigua, and the people of Antigua, the government have put a lot into the WICB and therefore I am saying that any benefits to be had, should be had by Antigua first and foremost.”
