Beach football team here to do battle

Tobago’s Beach Football team, BagoSports arrived in Guyana yesterday for a three-man series against a Guyana Selection at the Christianburg Beach Football ground in Linden this weekend.

The two teams were to meet last evening in the first encounter. This evening, the second game  will be played while the third game will take place tomorrow. All matches start at 19:00 hours.

President of the visiting BagoSport team, Kyle Lequay told members of the media at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Office that the team was in Guyana as part of a development programme to help promote Beach Football in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean as a whole. Rollin Tappin, General Coordinator of the Guyana Beach Football Association,  said the Tobago’s side’s visit  is a follow up to one made by the Guyanese to the twin-island republic in November last year. “Football fans can expect three exciting matches from the two teams so we are urging residents of Linden to come out and support the tournament.

He lauded local beverage giant Banks DIH for supporting the series. “Banks DIH has been with us from the inception and appreciate their support,” Rollin added.

This series is sponsored by Banks DIH under the Powerade brand.

Rollin disclosed that the local side is fully prepared for the engagement under Coach Abdulla Hamid.

Troy Peters, Banks DIH Communications Manager extended a warm welcome to the visiting team who were at a media briefing.

He said Banks DIH assisted Guyana team during the visit to Tobago last year and the company was extremely pleased to support the series.

BagoSport is captained by Makan Hislop while Dane Bernard is the coach.
