B/dos U15s win title

BASSETERRE, St Kitts,  CMC – Barbados wrapped up the Regional Under-15 title in anticlimactic circumstances after the final day of the Championship was washed out without a ball bowled here yesterday.

Persistent overnight and morning rain put all the venues under water and forced umpires to abandon play in all three matches.

Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago were meeting at Conaree Sports Complex; Guyana and Jamaica were scheduled to clash at Warner Park while Leeward Islands and Windward Islands were engaged at the Edgar Gilbert Complex.

On Monday’s first day, rain limited play to the Edgar Gilbert Complex where Leewards reached 51 for one.

Barbados, who played unbeaten, topped the standings with 63.5 points while the Windwards played impressively, losing one game to end in second on 57 points.

Trinidad and Tobago were third on 48.5, Leewards fourth on 38 while defending champions Jamaica finished one from bottom on 15.5 points after failing to win a single game.

Guyana, who finished last on 13 points, also failed to win a game.

Barbadian Lenico Boucher walked away with the Most Valuable Player award after amassing 411 runs at an average of 68.5, while scoring two centuries.

As expected, he was adjudged the Best Batsman of the tournament.

Trinidad and Tobago’s left arm spinner Bryan Boodram was the tournament’s leading bowler with 25 wickets.
