Bad weather ruins third round

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Heavy rain associated with the passage of Tropical Storm Isaac wrecked the third round of matches in the Regional Under-19 one-day Championship here yesterday. While play got underway in two of the three scheduled fixtures, they had to be eventually abandoned as torrential showers engulfed the country. The country was also lashed with heavy early morning rain as Tropical Storm Isaac passed north and headed into the island chain.

At the Desmond Haynes Oval, Guyana reached 86 for two off 12 overs against Trinidad and Tobago, after being sent in.

Play started at 1:15 pm and was reduced to 27 overs per side. Shimron Hetmeyer played a blinder to get 43 before the rains arrived.

At Pine Basin, Leeward Islands had slumped to 73 for six against ICC Americas after opting to bat first in a game reduced to 28 overs per side. Play started at 12:45 pm.

Captain Akeem Saunders was unbeaten on 32 as wickets tumbled around him.

At Weymouth, not a ball was bowled in the contest between Jamaica and Windward Islands as play was called off at 1:30 pm, after it was clear the ground was unfit for play.

Each team was awarded two points.
