Vikings have point to prove in match against GNIC

With prevailing good weather, cricket in Georgetown is scheduled to continue in both zones of the New Building Society 40 Overs Competition tomorrow and Sunday.

In Zone A, Vikings are set to play GNIC at the YMCA ground. In their last game Vikings went down to the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC). In that match, played at the YMCA ground, GCC batted first, and scored 233 for 6 in their 40 overs, which proved to be 142 runs too many for Vikings.

In GNIC’s previous game they defeated Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) by 143 runs at GYO.

Georgetown Cricket Club will play against the Guyana Defence Force at the GCC ground.

GCC will look to kick on from their most recent victory, when Almando Doman enjoyed a fruitful performance with both bat and ball, making 83 before taking 6 for 12.

Third Class is set to play Everest at the GNIC ground on Woolford Avenue.  Everest most recently defeated GYO at GYO by 7 wickets. They rode on a 93-run opening partnership from Sherfane Rutherford and Rishi Hirilall, who both made half centuries.

In Zone B, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) take on the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) at the MYO ground. Both sides enter the game in form with victories in their respective previous encounters. DCC defeated Malteenoes at Everest where Denis Squires led their chase home after DCC lost three early wickets. Shaheed Gittens inspired MYO to victory by scoring a century, also in a chase, as his side closed a 3-wicket win by virtue of his 107 not out, a valuable knock as no other batsman scored 20 for MYO in that game.

Ace Warriors will look to score a win over Transport Sports Club at the GYO ground. Ace Warriors recently had a miserable campaign in the Under-19 tournament, where they were shot out for under 50 runs on several occasions, and will have a few points to prove. Transport will be looking to make amends for the innings loss suffered by their first division side one week earlier.

Police Sports Club will aim for victory over Malteenoes Sports Club at Eve Leary. Police recently lost by an innings to the Malteenoes first division side and will be seeking the opportunity to gain a victory over the club’s second XI.

Matches start 11 am on both Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday in Zone A, the Vikings will play GDF at the YMCA ground and Everest Cricket Club take on GNIC at the GNIC ground.

In Zone B MYO will compete against Ace Warriors at the MYO ground.
