Guard on bail after denying he ripped woman’s top

A security guard charged with tearing a woman’s top yesterday told a court that she did it herself after they had a row about money.

Ron Sam, 47 was released on $10,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with unlawfully and maliciously damaging the top, valued $2,000, belonging to Alexis Blair, with whom he lives.

It is alleged that he committed the offence on February 17, D’urban Street, Lodge.
Sam, who is a father of six, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

When given a chance to speak, Sam explained that his brother sent him money and he bought a bicycle with it. He further stated that when he went home, Blair had asked him for money but he informed her that he did not have any. As a result, he said, Blair cursed him.

He emphasised that he went to a police station and reported her actions but when he arrived home the next day he was arrested. He said that Blair tore her own top.

The prosecution had no objection to Sam being released on bail but asked that he and Blair be placed on a bond to keep the peace, since they live together.

After listening to submissions, the magistrate placed the couple on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter and granted Sam bail in the sum of $10,000.
The matter will continue on March 13.
