Montrose man in court over sale of panel doors

A man who allegedly fraudulently converted a quantity of panel doors valued $1.1 million, which had been entrusted to him by another, was yesterday released on $125,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Fardeen Christen Paul, 23, is that between December 1 and 31, 2012, being solely entrusted by Michael Seeram to sell panel doors valued $1.1 million and return the money to him, he fraudulently converted the same to his own use and benefit.

Paul, who resides at Lot 77 Third Street Montrose, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Attorney-at-law Debra Kumar, who represented Paul, stated that the virtual complaint (VC) continues to do business with her client.

She further stated that there is no written agreement between the VC and her client.

When asked if there were any objections to Paul being granted his pre-trial liberty, Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman said yes, citing the nature of the offence and the punishment it attracts.

However, after listening to submissions, the magistrate granted Paul bail in the sum of $125,000.

The matter will continue on March 28.
