Wounding accused tried to stab complainant’s mother

Rashid Mohammed was yesterday charged with stabbing a man, who police say was trying to protect his mother at the time.

Mohammed, 30, appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court charged with the unlawful wounding of Robert Pearson on March 12. He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Hally Anthony said Rashid had a misunderstanding with Pearson’s mother and attempted to stab her with a knife. Anthony added that after seeing Mohammed advancing to his mother, Pearson intervened and began a scuffle with the accused, which resulted in him being stabbed about his body. Pearson was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he received medical attention, while Mohammed was later arrested and charged.

The prosecution had no objections to bail, which was set at $25,000 and the case was adjourned until March 21 for report and fixtures.
