Man charged with causing death of Windsor Forest child

Fitzroy Abrams was on Tuesday charged with causing the death of Saleena Shakieal along with other traffic offences at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on March 16 on the Windsor Forest Public Road, Abrams being the rider of his motorcycle caused the death of a three- year-old student of Precious Buds Play School.

Abrams pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read to him by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.

Abrams pleaded guilty to the charges of being an unlicensed rider, riding an uninsured vehicle and failing to render assistance. He was fined a total of $1.4M on the charges.

The prosecution had no objections to bail but requested it be in a substantial amount.
Bail was then granted in the sum of $1M.

Abrams will make his next court appearance on April 23.
Shakieal was rushed to the West Demerara Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 10:30 pm on the night of the accident.
