Second accused in murder of retired school teacher freed

Stephen Andrews, the second accused in the murder of retired school teacher, Dulsie Trim was freed yesterday after a jury returned with the  unanimous verdict of not guilty.

After an almost three-hour summing up by Justice Dawn Gregory, it took the jury just 45 minutes to return with a decision.

The first accused Roger Vyphuis on Monday walked out of court a free man after the judge upheld no-case submissions.

The duo was accused of killing the 70-year-old woman at her Buxton, East Coast Demerara home on May 18, 2008.

Prosecutors Renita Singh and Diana Kaulesar presented the state’s case.

Following the conclusion of this case the assistant superintendent of prisons read a summary of the list of persons who are awaiting trial. A list of 210 names of prisoners who are all inmates of the Georgetown Prisons was presented to the court during the jail delivery.

State prosecutors Singh and Kaulesar subsequently explained to the court that the oldest matters will be tried first.

Justice Gregory then signed the report.

The session was then declared closed. The new session begins next Tuesday.
