What was of political significance was the call for partition

Dear Editor,

I read the letter by Dr David Hinds in yesterday’s Stabroek News titled `Kwayana’s principal demand was for Joint Premiership’.

Dr. David Hind’s recollection is moreso credible.  I hold him and Eusi Kwayana in the highest regard and respect.  I am aware that their idea of joint premiership was advanced, but I must admit that I did not have access to the documents quoted in David Hind’s letter.

I accept all that he has said however the burden of my contention is this, at that time the major issue and what was of political significance was Kwayana’s alternative proposal for separate zones of partition of British Guiana.  This is what loomed large for whatever reason.

As I said elsewhere his position gained the sympathy and support of a wider cross-section, on the other hand the then leader L.F.S Burnham felt that by whatever means available we could overcome the assault by the PPP on sections of the Guyanese population.

The rest is history and we must all thank David Hinds for clarifying aspects of our history and to ask him others and myself to do our young people the service of sharing our experiences and the history of our country in circumstances where some folks are using the media to crucify our history.

Yours faithfully,
Hamilton Green, J.P.,
