Speaker lauds Alexander for speaking out on elections count

Speaker of the National Assembly Raphael Trotman yesterday lauded elections commissioner, Vincent Alexander for speaking out on the count fiasco in 2011 that nearly erroneously handed the PPP/C a parliamentary majority.

Speaking on the 2011 elections exposé by Opposition-appointed Guyana Elections Commission commissioner  Alexander, Trotman said, “I am glad the truth has been revealed even though quite late.” Alexander made the revelations in a letter in yesterday’s Stabroek News.

Trotman said, “When I read the letter what struck me is that it was the first time in so many years I had read something that touched the soul of the nation. The letter brought a level of decency into politics that is needed.”

Trotman believes Alexander’s revelation can make him a national hero. “It is an outstanding statement that will have a watershed effect on Guyana for many years. It is not about a seat but about a politician willing to stand for what is right and just,” he said.
