Father and son among trio on marijuana cultivation charges

A father and son were among three men yesterday remanded to prison on narcotics cultivation and trafficking charges.

Rickford Jacobs, his son Jose Jacobs and Daniel Jones appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and denied the charges.

It was alleged that on July 17, at Araibo Creek, Demerara River, they had in their possession 909 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Additionally, it was alleged that they had cultivated 33 marijuana plants, which are prohibited by law.

They were remanded to prison and their matters were transferred to the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court for July 23.
