Men on weapon charges deny having ice pick, knife

Two men were yesterday each charged with possession of an offensive weapon after they were allegedly picked up with an ice pick and a knife.

But both Alex Mendonca, 18, of Lot 4 West Ruimveldt, and Godfrey Giddings, 20, of Lot 191 Middle Road, La Penitence, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The charge read against Mendonca, a pork knocker, by Magistrate Judy Latchman stated that on July 20, he had an ice pick in his possession without reasonable cause and lawful authority, at Longden Street, Georgetown,

Giddings, a vendor, allegedly had a knife in his possession, also at Longden Street.

Attorney George Thomas, who appeared for both men, told the court that they posed no flight risk and asked for reasonable bail to be granted.

With Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt not objecting to bail for either of the men, Magistrate Latchman set bail in the amount of $5,000 each and set the return court date for July 31 at Court 1.
