Exes freed of assault charges

Once a couple, Sharon Fowler and Leon Clarke yesterday appeared before a city magistrate on charges that they assaulted each other.

It was alleged that on July 23, at South Road and Orange Walk, Fowler and Clarke unlawfully assaulted each other.

They both pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

“I took a restraining order out to keep my child mother away from me and she still coming around and bothering me. I told the police and they did nothing,” Clarke told the magistrate, when given a chance to speak.

But Fowler denied his claim. “I don’t go around this man. I would like to know if I walk on the street—after where his house is—if that is a problem? ’Cause I does walk a street away from where he lives and he does tell police I coming more than 50ft from him,” she said. “He does normally bring our son to my mother’s place and I don’t want that. If he come around, we gon just get into an argument. I don’t know if arrangements can be made so that he could get someone to drop my son off? I am also taking out a restraining order on him,” she added.

However, Magistrate Azore informed both parties that she could not alter decisions that have already been made by another court.

The assault charges were subsequently dismissed since neither party wanted to provide evidence against the other.
