Body floating in city trench

The body of an unidentified man was spotted in a trench by passersby near a gas station on the corners of Princes and High streets early yesterday morning.

However, up to press time the body, which floated under the bridge at the junction, had not been recovered.
An eyewitness told Stabroek News that she was walking on the pavement near the junction with her son when he shouted to her that a man was in the trench. She said she did not believe him but after he kept persisting that a man was indeed in the water, she looked and to her horror she saw the body of a man face down in the water.

“All I was seeing was his foot and a little part of his upper body. His head was in the water and it looked like he was stuck.
He had on a blue jeans and a white jersey with a white and blue boots,” the woman said.

Other onlookers said that the man’s body could have already been pulled out of the water if someone had held on to him when it was spotted. They said because of the rain and the flow of the water in the drain, it would be hard to find him now.
