Eleven-year-old Edgar Haymer was yesterday morning struck down in a hit and run while he was crossing the road at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo and a policeman has been held.
The accident was said to have occurred at approximately 2:40 hrs.
Police say that the driver of the vehicle was identified as a member of the Guyana Police Force after citizens pursued the vehicle and detained him. He was also said to be over the legal limit in alcohol consumption.
Haymer was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen by nurses in the outpatient department, before recommendations were made to have him transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital.
