Retired Jamaica postmistress murdered, grandchild kidnapped

(Jamaica Observer) OCHO RIOS, St Ann — A 63-year-old woman, identified as Nathlee Hamilton, was Monday night stabbed to death at her home in Beecher Town and her six-week-old grandson snatched by her killers.

Hamilton’s physically challenged daughter and mother of the baby, Stacey-Ann Ellis, said she was in a state of shock when she returned home from Ocho Rios and found her mother lying in a pool of blood in the living room and her baby missing.

“Dem kill me mother and gone wid me baby,” she could be heard telling persons here in Ocho Rios. “[I have lost my] two heartbeats,” she said.

At one point the distraught mother, who uses a walker to assist her in moving around, cried openly as she sat on the instrument in the middle of the main road near to the Ocho Rios Police Station.

Yesterday, residents expressed shock at the gruesome murder of the former postmistress and Baptist deaconess. “Is a wicked act,” one resident said.

“Dem could leave the woman and take the baby,” said another.

The Beecher Town residents said Hamilton was a sick person and so was not a big threat to her attacker, with some theorising that she may have been attacked because she refused to give the baby to the kidnapper.
