Albouystown man was killed by close friends, mother says

The mother of the 24-year-old man who was murdered in Albouystown on Sunday morning said that he died at the hands of close friends.

Yesterday, police in a release said that Lloyd Benjamin, who lived alone at 130 King Edward Street, Albouystown, had been stabbed to death near his home around 10:00 hrs.

The man’s residence is surrounded by several neighbours but when Stabroek News arrived on the scene of the murder on Sunday

no one admitted to having any knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Benjamin’s death.

The police were not in any better position with regard to the details of the stabbing, but they did say that he was killed subsequent to an altercation with two brothers.

Stabroek News spoke to Benjamin’s mother, Lorraine Benjamin, yesterday who revealed that the brothers Benjamin had his altercation with were his very close friends.

The police reported that Benjamin first had an altercation with one person, who then left and returned with his brother. Both of them, the police said, then confronted Benjamin and killed him.

Lorraine said yesterday that she did not know much of the details since the persons who might have seen what transpired on Sunday were keeping tight lips.

Since his death though, the woman said, she was taken to the mortuary at the Georgetown Public Hospital to identify her son’s body. It was then that she learned that he had been stabbed once to his left chest and chopped to the left side of his face.

The men believed to be responsible for Benjamin’s death are yet to be apprehended by police.
