Will we eventually be outnumbered by foreigners?

Dear Editor,

I am becoming increasingly concerned about the alarming rate at which various foreigners are taking up residence in Guyana.

Chief among my concerns, is that Guyana has a relatively small (Guyanese) population and over time we could be significantly outnumbered by this foreign invasion, especially within the traditional business sector and in our mineral fields.

Editor, we have to bear in mind, that these foreigners will eventually become citizens of Guyana, they will naturally find ways and means of integrating into Guyanese communities.

They will bear children and, they have the potential of influencing or taking over Guyana’s political land-scape and cultural plains.

Of course, a majority of the foreigners are likely to bring changes to Guyana’s socio-economic practices because to begin with, they speak their own languages.

But Editor, I want to concentrate attention on the Chinese, who are occupying both urban and rural centres in Guyana and who are taking over the commanding heights of our business activities.

I am calling on relevant government agencies and our opposition politicians to monitor and arrest this situation before time overtakes us.

Yours faithfully,
Morris Wilson
