Businessman charged with shooting at wife

Businessman Narine Balram was yesterday charged with shooting at his wife and was later released on $100,000 bail.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that Balram, of New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Chandra Sohan. He was charged with discharging a loaded firearm with intent and assault causing actual bodily harm.

He is to return to court on Monday.

According to the reports reaching Stabroek News, Balram and his wife Diane had an argument on Wednesday night at their home over money. During the argument he fired his gun several times at the woman, who managed to flee to safety without sustaining any serious injuries. The businessman is said to have been intoxicated at the time of the shooting.

A report was made to police as a result of which the businessman was arrested and an investigation launched.
