Suspect in beverages theft released on $80,000 bail

Sitaram Singh was released on $80,000 bail yesterday after he denied stealing beverages from a snackette in Houston.

Singh, of 23 Montrose, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to stealing 13 bottles of V8 Juices, valued at $3,900 and 25 bottles of Bentley lime and bitters drinks, valued at $3360, from a snackette owned by Joan Pereira.

According to the police report presented by Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, on December 7, at 2:30pm, Pereira secured her business before going home. On December 8, at 8:30pm, Pereira received information that her snackette had been broken into. She then proceeded to its Houston location, where she found the shop door broken into and items missing. The police were called and Singh was apprehended and questioned and he is reported to have admitted to the theft.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, placed Singh on $80,000 bail and adjourned the case until January 17, when statements are to be filed.
