Thirty youth leaders for training

The Ministry of Local Government signed a US$150,000 consultancy contract with Tiara’s Academy in New Amsterdam on Friday for the training of 30 youth leaders in six administrative regions of Guyana.

The Youth Empowerment Inclusion and Reconciliation Project, funded by the United Nations, is aimed at capacity building for the development of Guyana’s young people, addressing inadequate youth participation in government and the persistent social changes that prevent them from fulfilling their right.

Project Coordinator Vickram Bharat told reporters that the project was implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and entails the selection and training of 30 youth leaders in Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six and Ten.

Bharat also said that the contract involves the preparation and delivery of seven topical modules which are pertinent to youth development in Guyana. He added, “it also involves the monitoring of 30 projects within the Ministry of Local Government by the said participants having been placed in their respective regions.” The consultancy contract will last until March 31, 2014.

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Ganga Persaud had said, in a release, that the project is among many others aimed at enhancing the development of human resources across the regions.
