Chinese nationals robbed at Regent St store

A number of Chinese nationals were yesterday assaulted and robbed of an undisclosed sum of cash as they tended to their Regent Street store, between Cummings and Light streets.

A fellow proprietor who operates a business near to the store said she was inside washing when someone came and told her that the store had just been robbed by four men.

The woman, who requested her name not be mentioned, said that she was told that after robbing the store and assaulting the male proprietor, the men calmly walked to a waiting vehicle and drove away.

Upon hearing the news, the woman said she rushed to the store where she found the man bleeding from his face and head, and his wife crying. The woman said that the man had been gun-butted to his face and head several times, as the gunmen demanded whatever money they had.

When Stabroek News arrived on the scene, police ranks were in the process of questioning a Guyanese female store attendant, who was also in the store when it had been robbed.

An eyewitness said that after the gunmen made their escape, the female clerk slowly waked towards a taxi, which was waiting on her, and drove away. “When I reach the front I ask she is what wrong, but she just seh nothing and continue walking,” said another proprietor.

The female store attendant was eventually taken into custody to assist with the investigations.
