The Board of Industrial Training (BIT) hosted a graduation ceremony for 169 students who recently completed training in over 21 occupation areas under the National Training Project for the Youth Empowerment Programme (NTPYE) and the Single Parent Training Programme.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) report, BIT offers six months of free training for early school leavers and unemployed persons. The NTPYE initiative is one of many BIT/private sector collaborative initiatives.
In Region Four, the graduates hailed from Georgetown, and the East Bank and East Coast Demerara. Single parents were trained in Information Technology and Office Procedures, Catering and Cake Decoration, Garment Construction, Cosmetology, Child Care Assistant, Care for the Elderly and Driver/Salesman. ron Foundry Company in pattern making, welding and fabricating, fitting and metal machining. Customer care courses will soon be added to the roster as a component of IT training.
Vice Chairman of BIT, Clinton Williams congratulated the batch for completing the six-month course. He said the training has equipped them with skills that will make them marketable. Williams also noted that there were no drop-outs from the current batch and there was 100% attendance by all the students.
