No bail for joiner on new misappropriation charge

A joiner’s history before the court led to him being denied bail yesterday on a charge that he misused money given to him to build a cupboard.

The allegation against Andrayon Ewan is that on February 28, at Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, being solely entrusted by Gangadai Rajkumar with the sum of $200,000 to build a kitchen cupboard, he converted the money to his own use and benefit.

Ewan, 36, of Anna Catherina, denied the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

No further details about the charge were presented to the court, however Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt objected to bail for the unrepresented Ewan, saying that he had been placed before the court for similar offences. Hunt argued that if granted bail, there is a likelihood he would not return to stand trial.

As a result, Ewan was denied bail and the case was adjourned until September 6.
