Alleged mirror thief held after police chase

A West Ruimveldt man was yesterday arraigned on a charge of stealing a vehicle mirror, two days after being held following a police chase.

The charge read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court stated that on October 5, at Georgetown, Mark Persaud stole the rear view mirror, valued $50,160, from motor car PRR 2901, which is the property of Bosai Minerals.

Persaud, a mason, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Prosecutor Bharat Mangru said that driver of the car parked the vehicle on Church Street.

Shortly after, Persaud was allegedly seen removing the mirror.

An alarm was raised and police ranks in the vicinity chased him and he was apprehended.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted bail in the sum of $50,000. The matter will return to court 6 for report and fixtures on October 14.
