Three killed in East Bank accident

Three people were killed this morning when the Mahdia-bound bus they were in collided head on with a truck at Coverden, East Bank Demerara in the vicinity of Kaylee’s Gas Station.

Confirmed dead are the bus driver Felix Marc and two passengers identified Delroy Evans and Loretta Evans. Public-spirited citizens rushed the injured, some serious, to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. Stabroek News understands that some passengers have since been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Stabroek News was told that the collision between the Route 72 minibus which was heading up the East Bank and the truck occurred a little after 11 am.

The impact left the red coloured minibus mangled.

According to a police press release, investigations so far have revealed that Repish Bhagwandin, 19, of Hope, East Coast Demerara, was driving motor lorry GPP 8495 which was loaded with sand and allegedly attempted to pass another motor lorry that was parked on the roadway. In so doing GPP 8495 ended up in the path of Route 72 mini bus BPP 3521 that was proceeding in the opposite direction and the vehicles collided.

As a result of the collision Felix Marc who was the driver of the minibus and Delroy Evans and Loretta Evans, who were passengers in the minibus, received injuries to which they succumbed.
