Accused stalker on assault, larceny charges

A man was yesterday charged with robbing and assaulting a woman he has been stalking.
Leroy Williams was granted $100,000 bail after denying charges of simple larceny and assault when he was arraigned before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Williams, 22, of 51 Norton Street, pleaded not guilty to the charges that he stole from Samantha Chase and that he assaulted her months later.

According to the prosecution’s case, Williams and Chase know each other and he has been in the habit of stalking her.

It was alleged that on February  17, 2012, Chase was at home when Williams turned up and stole a BlackBerry smartphone, valued $50,000, from her. It was also alleged that on May 17 this year, he dealt Chase several slaps to her face and went away. The matter was investigated and he was subsequently charged.

The prosecutor noted that Williams is a known character and had several robbery charges against him.

Williams told the court that the allegations were false, while claiming that he and Chase were living together for seven months. He was placed on $75,000 bail on the theft charge and $25,000 bail on the assault charge. Both matters were fixed to be called again on June 12.
