Kaitan, Domingo among top Region Nine performers at AAG Carifta trials

Samuel Kaitan and Samuel Domingo were the outstanding performers from the Region Nine Athletics Club last weekend when the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) held its Carifta trials at the GDF ground, Camp Ayanganna.

Kaitan won the boys U20 5000m while Domingo was victorious in the boys U17 3000m and was third in the 1500m.

The athletes, who were accompanied by some of the club’s executives, were staking claims to be on the Guyana team to the upcoming (Caribbean Free Trade Agreement) CARIFTA Games in Nassau, The Bahamas later this month.

Apart from Kaitan and Domingo, other top performers from the club were Quincy Winter (U-17), Franklyn Parks (U-20), Ralence Andries (U-17) and Liston Bernard (U-17).

Winter placed second in the boys’ U-17 800 metres and long jump and fourth in the 1500 metres. Parks was runner-up in the U-20 boys’ long jump and third in the 1500 metres. Andries and Bernard tied in third in the 800 metres and 3000 metres.

The club said it wanted to express its gratitude to its sponsors for contributing towards its attendance at the trials. The sponsors are the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Regional Democratic Council of Region Nine, Rupununi Miners Association, Lethem Business, Aishalton Village Council, Aishalton Secondary and Primary School, GBTI Lethem Branch, Mulgravian Ventures Guyana Incorporation, Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports, National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Education Department of Region Nine. The club said it was also grateful for the gear the NSC has donated to it.
