Keiton Nelson defeated Orlando Milner by two sets to one to win the Elite category of the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL) three category tournament played recently at the GNNL Sports Club.
In the final Nelson won 15-17, 11-8, and 11-8.
Earlier in the competition the beginner’s category saw Marlon Mitchell squaring off against a red-hot Rawle Toney in a scintillating match.
The two were engaged in a heated battle with both players showing their desire to be called champion. Eventually Mitchell was crowned champion after defeating Toney 9-11, 11-6, 11-4.
The Over-40 category saw Garfield Niles defending his title against Calvin Roberts. Both players gave it their all but after the smoke cleared Roberts stood victorious dethroning Niles with an 11-4, 13-15, 11-7 triumph.
The organizers were appreciative of the participants and the sponsors, Trophy Stall, Mark Interior Communications and Regal Stationery and Computer Supplies.
