Sarwan fails again as Champions Trophy looms

LONDON, CMC – West Indies stroke-maker Ramnaresh Sarwan continued his patchy form as Leicestershire conceded first innings honours to Northamptonshire on the third day of their Division Two County match here yesterday.

The right-hander, who will suit up for West Indies at next month’s Champions Trophy here, scored just 19 for the visitors who were dismissed for 234 in reply to Northants’ 355.

At the close, the hosts were 94 for five.

Resuming the day on 89 for one, Leicestershire needed an unbeaten 64 from Shiv Thakor and 51 from opener Greg Smith, to get out of trouble at 134 for five.

Sarwan faced 33 balls in 42 minutes at the crease before he was fifth out.

He has made just two half-centuries in seven innings for the Foxes this season.

At St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury, discarded West Indies left-hander Brendan Nash suffered a rare failure when he failed to score, as Kent slumped to 159 all out after they were sent in on the opening day of their County game against Worcestershire.
At the close, Worcestershire were 105 for four.
