Chanderpaul, Hughes dismissed cheaply as Derbyshire lose

CHESTER- LE-STREET, England, CMC- West Indies middle order batsman Shiv Chanderpaul and his Leeward Islands teammate Chesney Hughes were dismissed cheaply as Derbyshire lost to Durham by 43 runs by way of the Duckworth Lewis method in the Yorkshire Bank 40 on yesterday.

Hughes’s wicket fell in the first over for eight while Chanderpaul found a fine edge to the wicket keeper when he was on eleven as Derbyshire slipped to 37 for two after eight overs.

Derbyshire were set a revised target of 270 from 39 overs after a brief shower and as an excellent 79 from Paul Collingwood guided Durham to 273-6 from their 40 overs.

With Derbyshire 43 runs behind the Duckworth Lewis score, the rain returned and no further play was possible at the Durham Emirates ICG.

On Sunday, Chanderpaul and Hughes both struck half-centuries in a century opening stand, to lift Derbyshire to a six-wicket victory over Scotland in the Yorkshire Bank 40.

Meantime at Tunbridge Wells, discarded West Indies batsman Brendan Nash slammed 57 runs to help Kent complete an eight wicket victory over Netherlands.

Nash faced 38 balls and struck six fours as Kent coasted to 250 for two in 35.4 overs after Netherlands had scored 249 for five in their 40 overs.
