The six-man chequered flag chasing team of local speed demons suffered mixed fortunes in the first leg of the two-day Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) which concluded on Sunday at the Dover Raceway in St. Ann, Jamaica.
According to a source from the Guyana Motor Racing Sport Club (GMR&SC) Group- 4 ace driver Kevin Jeffrey steered his Mitsubishi Evolution V111 to a second place finish in the last of the three races while fellow Group-4 racer, Andrew King failed to place after the engine of his Mazda RX 7 broke down during qualifying. His back up engine was also down on power.
Results of Group 2 Harold Hopkinson, John Joseph, Afraz Alli and Syed Hassan along with the Guyana’s overall point standing is still uncertain.
Meanwhile, Jamaican, Douglas ‘Hollywood’ Gore and his Audi TT dominated the event.
Gore took pole position in all three Group 4 races and subsequently took the lead for the drivers’ championships from David ‘King’ Summerbell Jr., who was unable to complete any of the CMRC races after posting a competition lap record of one minute 17.864 seconds one day earlier.
“4 out of 4, what a weekend it was, Thank you fans for coming out and supporting me,” Gore wrote on his Facebook page.
The Jamaica leg will be followed by the second leg in Barbados in September while the local leg will be staged at the South Dakota Circuit in November.
