David loses battle to Clarke but wins Giftland sweepstakes

Devon Davis lost the battle at the Senior National Bodybuilding Championships to Kerwin Clarke in July but last year’s CAC gold medalist won the war to become Giftland Office Max’s Bodybuilding Ambassador yesterday.

Davis, was relegated to the first runner up spot behind the new Mr. Guyana at the championships dubbed ‘Bodies of Steel’ last month but claimed the title of Giftland Office Max ‘ Man of Steel’ after receiving 150 more votes than Clarke during two weeks of fan voting in the ‘Giftland Showdown’.

The muscleman will now be entitled to a mass of benefits that includes travel assistance for overseas competitions in the Caribbean, supplements, a 10% discount card for all gym equipment and apparel sold at Giftland, six Giftland Office Max logo jerseys and a branded outfit with footwear and accessories.

According to Marketing Manager of Giftland, Compton Babb, the one-year sponsorship package is worth in excess of $300,000.

Babb also told Stabroek Sport yesterday that Giftland Office Max “will also be taking sportsmen and women in the disciplines of hockey, football squash and track and field under their wings to be sport ambassadors.”

Davis thanked Giftland for creating an avenue for success and also thanked his fans for voting for him.

Fans and followers  voted by visiting Giftland Office Max’s Facebook page to ‘Like’ either Clarke’s or Davis’ photo, by calling in on the Curtis Workout programme on Channel Nine in the presence of the athletes or via Giftland’s Blackberry Messenger (BBM) 29fdc308.

Shoppers also voted in person at the Water Street entity.
