My ewe sheep with a market value of $20,000 was impounded at the Suddie Police Station from where it mysteriously disappeared when I went to redeem it. Since then after more than two weeks no trace cannot be found of its whereabouts.
The animal was usually kept loose and without a rope in an abandoned pasture in my home village at Perseverance, but after missing it and making diligent searches within the neighbourhood, information surfaced that it was impounded in the police station.
From the records at the station, the sheep was impounded by a fellow villager on Saturday, December 21, 2013. But how it disappeared is still baffling with the tight round-the-clock security at the best place for safe-keeping.
The explanation given to me by one rank was that the rope slipped out from the neck of the sheep, while another claimed that by constantly rubbing on a wooden post, the rope burst causing the animal to get away. These were just flimsy excuses when the responsibility rested squarely on the police to safeguard the animal, and it would only be proper for me to be fully compensated for the loss of my sheep.
Nothing can change my belief that the disappearance of my sheep was an inside job, as no civilian would venture to steal it under the watchful eyes of ranks with long guns.
Some time ago a ram which was impounded there was discovered missing and during investigations only traces of wool and dung were found in a police vehicle.
