Miner fined for assaulting his child’s mother over mp3 player

A Linden miner was yesterday fined $25,000 after pleading guilty to assaulting the mother of his child over a borrowed mp3 player.

Orlando Simon of Fourth Corner, 1 Mile, Linden responded in the affirmative when asked if he had assaulted Chanel Hercules on January 28 at Hadfield Street.

According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, Hercules was a passenger in a bus on Hadfield Street when Simon pulled her out of the public transport. His reason, Grant said, was an mp3 player Hercules had for him. In the process of pulling her out of the bus, Simon hit the woman in her face then slapped her. According to Simon, she had been sitting in the passenger seat of the bus.

After his confession, Simon was handed a $25,000 fine by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
